Does anyone have one of these??? I just picked up a new skimmer today cause it was cheaper than trying to find a replacement pump for my old skimmer. I got a reef octopus 110 and am having problems setting it up. This skimmer came with the OTP-1000 pump and all the nessesary hardware but no instructions at all. i paid $100 for the skimmer and pump new so i think i got a good deal. the model number is ventu-110-6520. The problem i see is i can't get the water level high enough and still have bubbles going into the skimmer body. when i raise the water level to the bottom of the collection cup where i think it should be the water is solid in the skimmer (no bubbles at all). any help would be greatly appreciated! I hope i didn't get ripped off and bought a piece of junk!

How deep of water do you have it? When I had an Octopus skimmer I bring the water level to the bottom of the funnel with the air hose plugged than let run for a day there. Take some pictures of your skimmer so we can see how you have it setup.

these are a few pictures, the skimmer has bubbles in the picts but the water level is adjusted as low as it goes . when nearing the collection cup bottom all the bubbles are gone, like the pump wont pull in the air at that level

From my experience all the octopus skimmers produce alot of micro bubbles, other than that they are alright.

From what I can see there arent much bubbles. Check and see if maybe your air hose is kinked or something. The pump probably isn't getting enough air to mix with the water thats how skimmers work air is the most important thing to make the skimmer skim. Also, in sump skimmer have a certain water depth they are recomended to run in, try and find out what it recomends for that skimmer, your sump level looks a little deep. You can also put something under the skimmer to raise it up to the correct water level.

Thanks guys i have tried playing with the height but seems to make little difference. i'll see if it gets better in a day or two. I am searching quite hard to find some sort of info on the skimmer....so far all i can find is a vague drawing, no depth to run skimmer in sump, no setup instructions.

Just an FYI, unless they sent you the cup of an SWC skimmer, that is an SWC skimmer and not an octo.

Odds are it is just breaking in. Just let it run for a while.

no what happened was it was missing the lid and i just happened to have one from an old skimmer that fit perfectly. I'm thinking thats why it was only $100 cause it was missing the lid to the collection cup. The pump says reef octopus OCT-1000 and it is an exact match to a picture of a reef octopus but no stickers....

i really need to find out how deep in the sump to operate this skimmer at. I think my trouble stems from me having it too deep. What depth do you guys have your in sump skimmers running at? Myabe if i just copy someone who has a similar style skimmer configuration or the same if possible. I am concerned my water quality will get worse the longer the skimmer runs without being efficient
