I keep mine at approx 8 in deep(pump depth)...any changes you make to the adjustment tube will not show for a day or two..I keep mine almost all the way down and get a nice thivk dark foam...also like stated before it may still need to break in...HTH..

awesome now i have some sort of starting point. I was begining to think the pump may be bad because when i look into the part of the skmmer where the pump feeds the body of the skimmer at the bottom. The tube going in is clear and you can see the water/air mix going into the skimmer body. What i'm noticing is a "hickup" if you can understand that where there is a steady stream of air/water mix but then a slight pause where there is strait water( no air mixed in) going into the skimmer. Does the pump need time to break in too? trying to figure out the cause for the on again off again bubbles

i made a small stand out of eggcrate and some pvc pipe to raise my skimmer and pump to only being 8'' deep instead of 13''. I don't understand how this will effect the amount of air that is forced into the skimmer body? regardless it's made and inplace. i hooked the skimmer back up and it does the same thing. with the adjusting tube all the way down i get bubbles in the skimmer body but when i raise it to the bottom of the collection cup i get nothing no bubbles at all. i tried for the heck of it hooking up an air pump to where the airline for the skimmer is and with that then i can get bubbles with it turned up to the collection cup. without i get nothing? Does anyone have a copy of the instructions or assembly that they can scan and post??? i maybe missing something

UMMM this is interesting..its norm for there to be a clear spot below the bubbles in the body of the skimmer..but as far as I know there should always be a mix of water/air..I would make sure all your fittings are tight(inlet, air line etc)..with mine my water(in skimmer) has a empty space between neck of cup and body of skimmer..if I raise it(water level not tube) you would get wetter skim...
in this you can see my water level between cup and body.

sorry i guess what i was trying to explaing was that the tube that connects the pump to the skimmer body at the bottom.... being clear lets you see the pump mixing air as it enters the skimmer. Mine does not supply a steady stream of air/water. it seems to be having trouble pulling in enough air.

What i get is steady stream of water with little spurts of air mixed in. I have taken it all apart and made sure all the air fittings/lines had no blockages and all the fittings were tight i blew air back through the little silencer valve to make sure it wasn't plugged, and through the venturi.

I think i got a bum pump. Don't think these pumps let you get to the impeller section as they look sealed and non servicable so thats the last place i think i have left to look. Can these skimmers be retrofitted with another type of pump rather than the reef octopus pumps? I'm going to the LFS i got it from to see if they can make it work better in the morning...might need to exchange the pump because i think everything else should be good as is

Take the venturi assembly off the pump and make sure that there isnt anything stuck in the hole where the air goes through.
Also for an octopus that skimmer seems to be placed a bit deep in the water. I run my nw120 in about 5 or 6 inches of water. Much deeper and the pump doesnt pull enough air down the airline. So either raise the skimmer up so the pump is covered by about an inch or two of water or lower the water evel in the sump.

ok i raised it up another 2 inches so it's in a depth of 6'' just enough to cover the pump. I think i might have been trying to raise the water level in the skimmer too high... from what i can gather off the internet i should have the water level at the top of the skimmer body right where the taper starts to go to the collection cup. I corrected the level and i got lots of bubbles. I just don't know if it will actually skimm with the water where i set it so i took a picture and hopefully this is where i need it to be

the skimmer has been running for 3 days now....no change....i don't know how long it takes to break in a skimmer but my old skimmer i just plugged in an immediatly i got some skimming action and it was a piece of crap jebo skimmer. This skimmer doesn't pull anything! so I must be doing something wrong. I want to double check where i have the water level in the skimmer set to as i don't know where its suppose to be...I got no instructions. I'm going on day 5 without skimming and my water quality is going down.

The red line is where the water is in the skimmer

    Help asap :)

I think you are somewhat confused.... i am pretty sure you and i have the same skimmer, but your calling yours a 110?? i am almost 100% positive you have a vortex 300 skimmer by reef octopus. i also just got one without instructions so i know how you feel! i am also looking for the same info...depth of water and height of water in skimmer. if i find anything ill let you know, but you'll definitly have more luck looking for info on a vortex 300 ......just FYI
