My tank has been up since Jan 1, 2013. The skimmer has been running as long too. My tank is a 75 gal with only two false percula clownfish. Sump is 30 gal.

The skimmer has been filling with water up to the cup. I've turned down the dial and the water level drops. But then the foam never climbs up and I have to turn the dial and make the water go up to the water level line. And since I only have two fish, the foam isn't really there at all. It's more like water with a small foam head on it. Not the nice foam that climbs up.

Do any of you have this problem? Do you think my pump on the skimmer is going? I can always tell when the water level is getting too high, because the skimmer water outlet is really loud.

I should add, I clean my skimmer cup once a week because there is barely any skimmate.

i have this exact skimmer and it did the same thing too me for the first 2 months. now it runs awesome pulling some nice gunk and forming a nice head. i have a feeling that mine starting acting right once my water became a bit more dirty. i also only had two fish for the first several months and the amount of waste was very small. my set up is almost identical to yours so maybe try to feed more and add some more fish. also, i set the water level sorta low and eventually it will form a big enough head to skim out. just dont keep doing large adjustments because that will make it worse. small adjustments are key and just remember if there is anything to skim it will skim, there is most likely not much to take out....

Thank you, I plan on getting more fish really soon. And I hope I didn't mess anything up. I've been making huge adjustments with the dial just so the water doesn't gush out.

I try to do a rough adjustment on mine with the cup off, let it settle down for a bit then put the cup on and make fine adjustments from there. As long as my water level remains stable it s good to go, however when i shut off my pumps and the water level changes, I always need to readjust. Kinda quirky but i ve gotten used to it.

To the OP, where is the skimmer located as far as water line goes? It's very important to get it in the right position or it will be very touchy. Make sure the water is not above the output spout. The output is important in the overall function of the skim level inside.
