I installed my baffles for my sump this week and was testing if it held water and decieded to test my skimmer. Its a reef octopus 150. I put it in the sump in the chamber with about 12 inches of water. When its on it only makes large bubbles? Its not very many bubbles either. I removed the airline and made sure it wasnt blocked but just large bubbles. Am I missing something? I also tried putting it in about 9 inches of water with the same results. Cant seem to find any instructions for this skimmer anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Yamaha. The more I look at it I believe the issue is just because im using fresh water to test my sump. It is making bubbles just not sure if its the right amount. Let me try to get a video of it.

From what I understand, not only will a skimmer not skim for freshwater, bu it also won't produce proper "bubblage". I am sure the skimmer works fine. If you are really worried just make a small batch of saltwater and test it with that.

I did a freshwater rinse when I got my new skimmer and it produced almost no bubbles at all. As soon as I put it in saltwater, it foamed instantly.

Yes. All the above. When you put a skimmer in freshwater, you'll notice the bubbles produced will neither seem small enough, nor will they be produced in sufficient amounts. The same skimmer placed in saltwater will act like a completely different machine.

I don't know what the explanation is exactly for this phenomenon, but rest assured that all will be well when you place the skimmer in a marine environment.
