HOF is not a typing error
secured a new skimmer today, my 1st Reef Octopus skimmer
thus I have set it up on front of tank and will run it there for a few days
until Im certain there are no leaks etc ( harder to monitor on the back of the tank)

my Deltec served me well for almost 3 years, but during the tank strip down in August I gave myself 2 problems
    1) I lost the degassing plate, and had a plastic tube from outlet to tank to compensate
    2) it was fine before strip down, but afterwards it did not behave as it used to, and it had decreased performance and was noticeably louder

1st instinct was to purchase a new Deltec from UK and have team mate bring it out end of this month

believe it or not despite the fact these skimmers are made in a factory 40 minutes from where I live, they are difficult to source in China (most made for export)

so I got directly in touch with factory by e mail
they replied with a mobile phone number of someone in Hong Kong who could help me

    long story a bit shorter
    here it is

    well built
easy to assemble ( with a 9 year old son who reads Chinese anyway)
Ill update this when skimmate is produced

and it will be nice to finally have a skimmer that I can at least compare with the happy memories of the MCE600

My Reef Octopus BH-2000 is being delivered to me today. Chose to try this skimmer instead of the Remora. I just wanted to try something different.

    congrats Clarky

1st impression is they are a very nice looking unit
the external pump is also going to help with heat issues

took almost 1 US gallon to fill mine

That was one of the main reasons for choosing the skimmer.

The Remora with a maxi-jet. The middle rated Remora. Not the nano or the pro. I sold it and went skimmerless for a while. Then started to develope some algae issues. The Reef Octo pump being outside of the tank was what sold it for me. So it's being delivered today. Can't wait.

I'll post a pic in here when I get it set up. It's going to be a HOS skimmer. Hang on the side.

great, please do keep us informed on performance
I would be interested in how you feel it compares to the AquaC you had previously

Mine will be HOB probably Wednesday or Thursday

I need to empty the tank to move it a few CM further away from the wall
the Deltec just fitted, the Octopus will not

Well the BH-2000 is up and running right now.

There is one part that has me stumped though. Matching the part to the picture I think it's called the "silencer". The pic doesn't show what it's supposed to connect to or how to connect it. Any ideas?

Edit #1: Nevermind. I figured out it connects to the air hose to regulate air intake.

have you decided to use either of the black or blue sponges? I'm using the black one right now, but not the blue one.
