And that's what is strange too. Usually some folks get them first and report back. Seems everyone is waiting on this one, and nobody is saying a word. Where are all those beta folks?

I've asked distributors stuff, but they are all waiting too.

In all honesty powerman why would they put such a "powerful" pump on a small cone body? Do you think Reef Octopus (one of the top protein skimmer mfg.) would make such a big blunder? There has to be some explanation....

There are some mixed feelings on the 1400lph for the 4.5" neck. Some feel it is too much and some say it will be fine.

I have also seen people talkin about the standpipe on how the exit is too high... that it will need to be modified.

It isn't a blunder if it is detuned. Skimmer bodies and pump sizing are nothing new in the industry. Every shape and size has been tried pretty much. Sure there are variances, but there are general guidelines for what works. Every skimmer manufacturer out there could easily put their next bigger pump on a smaller body and call it a performance boost, but they don't.

Speaking of blunders, have you checked out Alpha cones? They have huge necks, and reviews have not been favorable. They don't always get it right the first try.

The neck is 4". Not the end of the world, but is small for a 1400 lph skimmer. Mine for spec is 4.5 at 900 lph. One reason the outlet may be that high is to raise water level and reduce air flow. Don't know.

At this point all we know is numbers. Don't even know if it is right. Pure speculation on my part. 1400 could just be a rating for the pump, not actuall flow on the skimmer. It coul dbe right and it could rock. It isn't the case of an obvious failure on Octos part.... it is just something that raises concern. I would not be willing to play guinie pig on this one. We will know soon enough. Reviews will be coming in soon.

Powerman I do take value in what you say... and your right all we know is numbers and could only speculate til we have solid feedback from reefers.

I absolutely LOVED my little BH-100F on my old system. I just wished Reef Octopus (in case they are listening ;) ) would do something about their enormous footprints for the in-sump models.

How about an 8x10" footprint on the EXT-160?

I'm set to pull the trigger on this soon, I think.

I'm no expert, I only know what I read. Straight up, it looks very promising. Hell... I was even wondering if I could swap out my Sicce for one of those BB 3000s;D Of course everyone is going to say it is the best thing since sliced bread.... which we know isn't the case because mine is.;D.... But I'm sure will will see some feedback from some reputable sources soon enough.

One thing for sure.... say they restrict the inlets to say ~800 lph..... less power consumption and that size body with 800 lph is still a very good setup. ATB 840 are around there and folks are running those up to 150g. On a 90g it would rock. So it isn't like it "won't work". It would kick butt on a 90-120. Right in your ball park.
