    Pinnotheres ostreum ( oyster crabs ) Are they reef safe or should i chop them up for fish food.

    all i could find is recipes involving garlic.lol so i guess theyre definitely skillet safe :), not sure about reef. sorry.

    A diminutive (less than 1 inch wide) soft-shell crab that makes its home inside an oyster or clam and lives off the food its host eats.

    So it sounds like they stay with the host, so they might be reef safe. Cant find any info on keeping them in tanks, just cooking them like others said.

    I agree with the others, since it's diet is listed as left overs from it's host, I would say their safe, but be cautious.

    The oyster crab, Zaops ostreus, is a small, whitish or translucent crab in the family Pinnotheridae. It is less than half an inch across, and lives inside the gills of an oyster or a clam.[3] It uses the oyster for protection and lives on the food that the oyster gets for itself. It is found in oysters in the North Atlantic Ocean.[3]

    The crabs are eaten as a delicacy.[4]
