does water flow over all sides? Does it distort the view? Great looking tank BTW and I LOVE the coral selection

very nice. what size is that? it looks huge.... also i love that anemone. :) just a warning. dont ever put anemones in that climb. they climb over the edge and end up in the over flow which causes a flood. star fish do well in zeroedges my blue linka never goes past the edge :)

This is a good heads up. Wonder how many people found that out the hard way.

i found out the hard way :( so thats one ... it damaged my new wood floors. i was sick. most of the wood dryed and pulled back into place. you now have to look for the damage to see it, its very slight.
im still learning the tank really. but if i can save another from what happened to me, good :)

oh another thing is credit cards work great for cleaning the tank

im now a bit concerned about the check valve that closes when the power goes off. i hope it doesn't ever fail as i just read could happen. so far mine has been ok. but you never know

I'll take some more pics with a real camera after the tanks weekly cleaning. The last pictures I posted were right after we had new sand added and more live rock, so the water was cloudy.
Pink4Miss, I'm happy to hear from someone else with one of these tanks. If you don't mind, I do have some questions about returns and flow.
The guys who did the plumbing job on this system, well lets just say that they didn't think things through, and IMO it is effecting many things with the tank.
Let me know if you be interested in answering some questions. Thanks. Also, I'd love to see pics of your setup.

Oh and to answer the question you posted earlier, the tank is 4' x 4' and I think 14 inches tall. I think the tank could hold over 100 gallons before rock, and we also have a 30 gallon sump.

not sure how much i can help you since mine has only been running a short time also. but your welcome to contact me.
i didnt raise the returns they are hidden in the rocks. i will be looking into a way to back up the check valve in-case it fails, after reading your post about it. i also wonder when your valve failed. did it leak all over slowly? since it was a long weekend it got the chance to flood? or was it just stuck open?

thanks :) when i re-read your post about the flood i noticed the size of the tank. thats huge! :) mine is 24 by 24 by 14 high 35 gallons without rock. 25 gallon sump/fug ( that was an upgrade and the largest that would fit inside the stand i was told. i learned on my first tank a few years back how important a good sized sump/fug is when your an over stocker of fish as i am)

oh i did make a mesh cover for my tank to keep the jumpers in. i cover it at night and when im not home. i found the thread about these covers on here

The check valve that was supplied with the system didn't work. It seemed like the flap just didn't open or close all the way, it it leaked slowly. We switched to the floating ball check valve which so far has worked great. I would suggest the floating ball valves with what I experienced, but raising the returns is something that would probably be the safest method.
    Now here's my problem\question:
The guys who did the plumbing, they put too many elbows after the pump, so it goes like this, return pump --> floating ball check valve --> many elbows --> returns. This creates many problems, very slow flow to the tank, which causes issues inside the tank itself which I won't get too much into. It also causes issues with the floating ball being knocked around from back pressure, you can litterly hear it rattling, and I think will in time damage the ball and eventually cause it to fail.
And lastly, which is what I'd like to know from you, the water cascading over the sides of the tank shimmers and distorts the view. I don't know if you've ever slowed the flow from the return with a ball valve or anything, but when I've seen zero edge tanks setup before, you couldn't even tell there was water flowing over the sides. That is not the case with our tank, and I have a belief that it is related to the flow rate. I think if the flow was higher, then it would stop that cascading effect over the edges. I'm just wonering if you've ever seen that issue, and if you think I would be right about my assumptions.

the pump on my tank is oversized for the tank a mag 1800. so i have the water flow turned down with a valve. do you have the valve? i was told that was to tune in the water flow. i still can see the water flowing over the sides but any distortion is at the bottom of the side walls not at the top.

and what your saying about the ball noise fluttering. i get a fluttering noise with the check valve when the pumps water flow needs to be adjusted higher. as i was saying my pump is over sized and normally the water flow is adjusted to 50-60% of what the pump can put out ... i often will run it full blast to clear the lines out. than tune the water flow back in.
sometimes im not so clear when im writing. i hope you see what i mean. i really stink at giving directions too. lol
