Do you run a chiller to keep your tank at the desired level? If so, what size chiller and what size tank?

    Thanx

What temp do you keep your tank at Macnreef and why?

    A lot of people keep them around 80 - 82. I am more of a 70's fan myself. ;D

After many talks with Shimek, I keep my systems with DSB's around 80 - 82 degrees. Prior to talking to him, I'd keep my systems between 74 - 78 degrees, to help compensate for hot summer days.

Ah.. you touch on it there Gresham. In a closed system the 80's thing seems risky with temp swings that are pretty common. If you got a chiller, then I guess it's ok.

But I have never had the coin to afford a chiller and so I always kept it lower.

Plus I read on Ron's Web site how he came up with that temp recommendation and well... I am not sure about those averages, does that take into account water depth, amoung other things? I am not trying to bash. Just a little confused...

Take it from someone who has been in this hobby for over 20yrs, I keep my tanks around 80 degrees and not one critter has complained about it. In fact, they all look just fine to me, and are growing well. I just yesterday had to take an LTA back to the LFS because it had gotten too big for my 58g. So, I don't believe anyone is hurting in there :)

Good to see a old timer on the board! [smiley=thumbs_up.gif]

Hey if it ain't broke don't fix it, sounds like your tank is doing great.

For me, I am pretty paranoid, I've lost a few fish in heat waves before, but like I said, if you can control it up there, cool.

    Thanks for joining!
