This is an interesting, if not predicatable story.

I have been a freshwater guy since my childhood. Does anyone remember Metaframe tanks and Long-life aquarium supplies? The metal hoods that rusted so readily? That's how long I've been into it. A few months back I started to get saltwateritis, manifesting itself through an incredible itch to set up a reef. I'm not there yet. I'm still doing research, planning, and asking tons of questions here.

Anyway, my wife was talking about my addiction to aquariums (I've go 6) at her office. She came home and told me a colleague had "...some kind of filter," that I might be interested in. He used to have a tank, but got rid of it a few years back. Turns out it was an RO/DI that I ended up getting at a great price. Every day since, she's been forwarding emails from him with suggestions with online reef resources. I told her that, based on the number of emails I've been getting, he'd soon be back into the hobby. Well, last night she came home and gave me the news... he's looking at tanks!

I've come to the conclusion that reef tanks are not a hobby; they are an addiction. :)

That was the first thing that I said to my wife. I was courteous and offered to return the filter, but he graciously declined. Lucky for me.;D

I think fish tanks in general are an addiction. When I joined the Army, of course I had to get rid of my tanks because I had no where to keep them. After my first deployment to Iraq, I just had to get one again (I was also married by this time and out of the barracks). When we got our tax returns back this year, my wife asked how much it would be to turn our 16 gallon into a saltwater tank (something I had already been planning, lol). I showed her the salt mix and LS at Petsmart and then we left. Later on that night, she said I could buy, so I rushed back to Petsmart because they were getting ready to close lol.

To this day, she insist that she just asked how much it would cost lol. I swear I heard her say I could buy that stuff though. I acquired the rest of my stuff from a trade I did with someone on craigslist.

I hope not... my gf might make me go. lol. She doesn't understand why I spend time and money "just to keep fishies". She does occasionally glance into my tank and admire my "flowers" and "bushes" (corals). Haha
