    This was one idea messing around with plumbing parts. It keeps the return hose tucked away, but obviously the elbow piece as a return port doesn't do well for flow.

    What I really need is a bulkhead with a male adapter on both sides...

    Buy the looks of it. It's a perfect setup for this:
    1/2" Model

    I went with the GH return kit that included a bulkhead that was threaded on both sides. I then got a MIP to barb 90* fitting like the one you posted to go from the hose coming up to the threaded bulkhead.

    Yes, that's exactly what I need! But I don't want the SeaSwirl...do they sell the bulkheads individually? Or maybe that's what you were referring to?

    I bought the kit cause I needed the little hole saw and lock line. I got the fitting at the hardware store.

    Here is just the bulkhead:
    1/2 inch thread x thread bulkhead

    4 week update:

    Looks like everything has cycled through:
    Ammonia = 0
    Nitrite = 0
    Nitrate = 5-10

    Cleanup crew from ReefCleaners should be here in a couple of days and I have an order in at my LFS for a mated pair of Ocellaris :cheesy: I plan to do a big water change right before I add them.

    Skimmer is now running. So far its been working nicely and has already pulled out a bit of junk. Should be broken in nicely by the time the fish arrive and things start getting "messy".

    Also finalized (for now) my return outlet and replaced my Eheim 1048 with a 1250. Definitely some more flow but still less than what I expected :-/ I think I may have to switch the 1/2" tubing with 3/4" to help minimize flow loss.

    Next up:
    MP10
    Lighting selection (likely the Radion Gen 2)
    Carbon/GFO reactor

    Cleanup crew has arrived from ReefCleaners! All acclimated up and they're off and running.

    -dwarf ceriths
    -florida ceriths
    -nassarius vibrex
    -assorted hermits
    -nerite snails

    I also ordered pods and added them to the system. I'm not sure how effective they're going to be since they're typically found in mature systems. But they are advertised as being able to "seed" new systems so I figured give it a shot.

    Also got my Vortech! It's quite satisfying replacing 2 pieces of equipment for 1. Especially something this bad ass! Been running an hour and I already love it....no wonder I've wanted one for so long. Can't wait for some corals :2thumbsup

    Curious about placement for the Vortech.

    I currently have it on the back wall, towards the top, facing the front panel. Is this an ok spot for it? I appear to be getting flow throughout the tank and it's only at about 45%, although it's really hard to tell since my water is still so clean and nothing is really floating around.

    Obviously on the back is the most out of the way and damn near invisible against the black. But should it be on a side wall to be more effective :confused:

    BUMP on the Vortech placement. Surely someone has an opinion...
