Well heres the story, i had to move my 65 gallon tank couple days ago so i drained the water into buckets until it was light enough to carry. I did some vacuuming also. when it was time to put the water back in i noticed there was a MAJOR PH drop went down to about 7! i saw fish laying on the bottem and breathing heavily. So i had to put some premade salt water in there already to make up for vac, so i decided to drip the PH balenced 8.2 water in slowly so there is no shock in the water.i set everything up and it was driping at a good rate, i had about 15-20 gallons dripping in, i started the drip at around 830 last night. Luckily i took the coral out of that tank before i moved it becuse this morning when i went to feed them half my fish were dead. The drip had gotten cloged by a clup of undissolved salt. after i stood there in shock and cried for a good 30 min i counted the Casualties i found 9, bolth sharks, saddle puffer, fuzzy dwarf lion, maroon clown, and 4 assorted damsels. Now my question to everyone is what should i do now? should i go with the same fish again or get some other cool fish instead? i will get the lion fish again, he was my favorite. I think im done with the assorted colorful damsels, even though they are colorful and cheap. And i want to keep that fish only tank now that i moved the coral into my nanocube.

Wow!!! I'm sorry for your loss. I think you should wait a few days before making any long-term decisions.

Sorry to hear of your issues, moving can be tricky. If you need to do it again I would suggest doing some research on how others have done it successfully in the past, using heated/circulating rubbermaid tubs or 5 gallon buckets to hold fish during the move for example.

I would take some time off and rethink your stocking plan and research all of the fish you would like to restock with. You had a LOT of fish for a 65gallon tank which may have had something to do with some of your casualties, lack of enough oxygen in a small volume of water, that kind of thing.

    Good luck!

Sorry for your loss, I know how that feels. To be honest, that was a ton of livestock in such a little tank, like screwtape mentioned. You would have run into some serious problems down the road as they reached full size. A dwarf lionfish alone will max out the biocapacity of a 65G tank unless you have really good filtration in your system. If you do decide to get another lion, I would strongly suggest leaving that as the only fish in the tank.

I see you mentioned you vacuumed out the tank also. Did you test the water for ammonia compounds? If you had an established sand bed the last thing you want to do is disturb it.

Sorry for your loss all the same.

I concur with the above posters as well. I would do more to find out not only what, but why, things went wrong before you start top rebuild after such a major loss.

And while it's a difficult lesson to learn first hand, maybe others getting into the hobby can learn something from your tragedy - so good can come from the bad.

Also, the lion fish was mentioned, but the shark thing... 2 sharks in a 65 gallon tank? Either one of those sharks need a 200+ gallon tank when it's fully grown - and they grow FAST! Everyone - Please read up on what fish you're wanting to keep before you buy.

Anyways, let us know how things progress, take it slow, and ask any questions you want answered. This is a great community and you're certainly not the first one to experience this kind of loss.

Sorry for your loss, take your time and make a plan and figure out what fish will fit your tank based on it's greatest length.

the fuzzy dwarf lion was 2 inches in length and i read in alot of places that it only needs 30 gallons. i have 2 ehiem filters and a skimmer rated for 100 gallons
