The hole saws and bulkheads come with the kit, so I'm not exactly sure what size they are. I think the overflow one is 1 1/2in, and the returns 1 1/4in.

On a side note, I did decide to buy myself a new tank (No, the wife was not terribly happy about it.) Apart from the aforementioned problems with the returns being too low, I also was not happy with my overflow placement, as I had originally intended to use a clamp-on MH for lighting.

So I'm gonna re-drill it, put the returns up as high as I can get them without breaking the glass, and move the overflow box more right-of-center. Gonna have to wait a coupla weeks to get the new tank, so be patient .

 

you made the right decision(the wife will cool down sooner or later) , as said a few posts back you cant cheap out this far along. good luck and we all look forward to seeing round two.

one question.. what size tubing did you use and where did you buy it?

 

Look on craigslist for a big cheap tank
