I have a story i would like to share with you all....

This evening i sat at home around 4pm admiring my aquarium. I then headed to work at 5. at 5:10 i get a phone call saying that at least half of my water from my 55 is on the floor and it has ran through the hardwood floors (upstairs) and ruined the ceiling on the main level, dripped through that floor and has ruined a few tiles in the ceiling in the basement. Such a huge bummer.
What had happened is my output hose from my canister filter had came off and all of the water up until a certain depth had just ran out all over the floor. It was a catastrophe indeed.
However, i am blessed with good friends, family, and coworkers who were all willing to help me. I had a friend bring 15 gallons of premixed water to the house and coworkers who could cover my shift (i am a trainer at the YMCA) for a few hours. My family headed over to help me clean and vacuum the carpets, etc.
There were no catastrophes. However i am seriously questioning my Rena XP3 at this point.
    Such a bummer.
But the good thing is my aquarium is back to normal and all is well.

    JP

    Yes, i agree.
My only concern is that my clam was out of the water for a while. I hope it pulls through. I burped it and it has fully extended again. I still have to put some of my LR and stuff back together and get the ceiling fixed. But yes, i am lucky to have good friends, family, and co-workers.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
You are fortunate to have family and friends to assist you. Trying to keep the sneaky water in a box can prove to be a challenge. Hopefully someone will read this and it will prevent the same thing from happening to their tank.

Tridacna are exposed to air during extreme tides in the wild and do fine, so I would not be surprised if the clam just does fine.

Wow not fun. Can I ask how the hose came off as I have a xp4 running and that would bum me out. Hope everything works out.

My girlfriend just bought an xp3 (against my wishes to drill the tank and do a sump, another story) and upon my inspection, the stock hoses look like a joke. The stock plastic hose clamps are throwaways IMO also. I'm afraid the same thing is going to happen to her tank one day, but I get in trouble for telling her how to run her setup lol

I would sneak in and upgrade her plumbing without even telling her... because we all know that if its a serious relationship....guess who will be doing the clean up :p

Had a similar situation happen on my 55 at an apartment... Twice actually, different causes... Amazingly they didn't charge me for damages
I'd imagine their pet policy has changed since I lived there...

Sorry to hear that, our tanks definitely can be a PITA. IT can certainly be a love, hate relationship, that's for sure. Glad to hear people were around and willing to help, it's great to know you can count on your friends when these things happen though :)
