Thought I start a build thread to keep track and get some advice.

A little history.. I got into reef tanks about 6 or 7 years ago with a typical noob 10G tank, hob filtered, pc light powered with the oh so irresitible clown. I've had a successful NC 24 mixed reef for about 2 years then I took a plunge into the semi big tanks (67G).. I was short on cash yet I wanted a big tank, so I bought all used equipments including the tank. My skimmer went dead after less than 3 months of use and the seaswirls were crapped out even before it went on the tank. My 67G didn't last too long.

My 67G which never saw the light.

My current tank 34G starphire Solana. All livestock will be transferred to the new tank.

This time around I wanted to build everything to my specifications. And NO used equipment with the exception of 6045 that I got a really good deal on. lol

Tank is AA (Advanced Acrylic) 36"x24"x20" with center trapezoid overflow with 1" drain and 3/4" return.

Sump is also AA 28x18x16 with custom media/drain tower, 18x10 skimmer section, 18x8 fuge section.

    8 Gallon ATO.

I Kind of overdid it. Super heavy with all 2x4's. I used thin tiles to floor it and skin the top and sides. I like the look.

    Retrun: Rio 2100 or 2500.
    Flow: 2 Tunze 6045.
Lights: Eshine 48x3W cree leds with controller. This thing is supper bright!

Very soon. Going to be ordering return pump (once I decide on which one) along with bulkheads and other goodies. Going to HD to pick up some plumbing parts this weekend.

Yeah, I've always liked rimless tanks. 3 of my 5 reef tanks were rimless. It just looks so clean.

Mini update.. I got all my equiptments ready. Picked up some dry rock and sand. Only delay is my light hanger. I've decided to use 1/2" copper pipes and welded it together. Undecided if I want to sand finish it or prime and paint it. Pics to come when I get home.

I don't know if you should use copper pipe. Wont that leach copper into the system?

Light hanging fixture. It won't touch the water column. Do you mean it particles falling into the water?

I will either paint it or put a clear coat on it.
