Typically a reverse light cycle is the best, some do 24 hr 'fuge lighting....
How big is the refugium? A 6000k bulb is great as many plants like warmer temped lights and will grow great but I have had success growing chaeto and various caulerpas with a 10,000k and actinic combo. Some people will go out and get a flood light at a hardware store and toss in a plant bulb others like me use a twin tube 30" fixture that fits my 29 gal 'fuge perfect. The size of the tank is what is going to determine what size/type light you use. I wouldn't bother with any snails, if you have a healthy system and 'fuge there is a more than likely chance that you will have some beneficial hitchhiker snails reproduce like strombus or so on...

    Happy 'fuge-ing!

That's a fine spectrum to use. Run it on a timer opposite your main tank.

I don't see why a snail or two is needed in a refugium but they really won't harm anything.
