    Unless you have one of the few refractometers that are calibrated for NSW then calibration using water will provide inaccurate results at the range of NSW as the refractive index is slightly different for NSW or our salt mixes because of the blend of different salts involved.
    Frequency of calibration needs depends on quality of unit as well as handling it receives in use.
