    I want to start a 30 gallon refugium for my 75 gallon tank. would a HOB filter work as an overflow box since i do not want to cut holes in the glass?

    It might, but it would not work well. You could cut a hole in it and plumb it down to the fuge, but you would have to perfectly balance the filter pump with the return pump which is near impossible to do, and even harder to get it to stay tuned.

    Check out Eshopps overflows. They are the cheapest, yet the best IMO, overflows made.

    You will also have to worry about the pump on the HOB filter failing.
