Deep sand bed for me. Tried the mud...didn't see the benefit for the price.

 not sure but from the looks of it, the cat is definitely tired of hearing that "Puff the Magic Dragon" song :D

I've got a Tupperware container that I'm going to set up tomorrow as a fuge.

    A. How much kitty litter?
    B. As in inches?
    3. What all do you do to it? like make it mush or leave it granular? I knwo that when my cats use the litter box it clumps so, do I want it to do that?
I'm putting my old pc lights over it...anyone got some fuge plants they'd like to send me?
    I'll pay shipping;D

 Never mind what your cats do in private  I'll have Roger post about how to set the mud up but I do know that you only want to use 100% clay, unscented kitty litter. If I'm not mistaken, you just lay it down like any other substrate and it will eventually "dissolve" into "mud".

cool how often do you change/replenish it or do you just leave it?

also, I was wondering can I use the phos reactor I just got to pump the water back to the tank? kinda like it gets down from the tank by way of gravity and then back up with the phos reactor? would that work you think? I'm going to have my fuge behind my tank, just under it being level with the tank.

Put enough dry litter to be about 6 inches deep and when it dissolves it should be about 3 to 4 inches about 4 is what you want to end up with. Takes awhile to settle out and will cloud the tank but not to worry it will clear .. A few here set them up last yr and from the P/M I got and get they love it .. i have used it and will use it anytime. And its the best first layer to use in a DSB or plenum system. Just cheap Ga clay kitty litter.

what else do you put in a fuge? I know some sort of algae... snails? crabs? and do you think that would work using my phos reactor as the transport back to the tank from the fuge?

Do I have to top it with anything and how long does it take to settle once in, or how many days should I wait before running the overflow and return pump to keep it from stirring it up again and makin my tank all muddy?

Has it settled yet? Thinking about putting it my new tank. Any results?
