    As long as there is no chance of a suction forming and continuing to drain. same thing for the return line on the display tank, it will siphon back to the sump until the suction is broken. this is usually acomplished with a pair of holes drilled just below the waterline that will break the siphon when they start sucking air.

    1) I think 15 gal is plenty big for a fuge for a 55gal DT. As long as it has slow flow, good light and chateo it'll do its job.

    2) Option 2 seems the simplest.
