I just purchased a refugium for my 90 gallon fowlr tank. I want to switch out the wet/dry I am using. tank has been up and running for 14 months, all parameters are good.

Can I just remove the wet/dry and put in the refugium and add new water to my tank to fill refugium through the overflow?

I havent read anything that would suggest a new refugium has an initial set up period.

Any replies would help. My tank has a yellow tang, 3 green chromis, and 2 sebae clowns, along with turbo snails, blue and red leg hermits.

I want to start placing coral in the tank as I Feel it is ready. I do have 3 peppermint shrimp as well, I have read they may be a problem for corals?

The tank has 120lbs of live rock and 80lbs live sand. Coralline algae throughout. Thank you for your input in advanace.

First of all, Peppermint shrimp being problematic to corals for the most part is primarilly due to their consistent picking for scraps of food and their climbing on corals is all, they don't necessarilly feed upon corals.
Now for your refugium, great you decided to eliminate the wet/dry and go with a refugium. You will feel much better and get more enjoyment out of it! When you set up the refugium, you really will not have any initial set up period other than for the beneficial living organisms to populate the refugium for the most part!

I recently exchanged my sump/wet-dry with a new sump/wet-dry/refugium and I did it in one day. Results will vary, but in my case, all I got was some Red slime in my DT and refugium and it went away within a month. No mini-cycle or anything similar. I did however, went from 20ppm of NO3 to a big fat zero within a month. Luna
