What are people's thoughts on size of Fuge/Sump in ratio to size of DT?

While bigger can be better, a sump/fuge is not even a necessity; so with that in mind, whatever fits your cabinet and budget, and holds the equipment you plan to use is the one that's right for you.

+1While they are a great way to hide equipment the size really isn't all that important. However we usually try to get as much water volume as possible in our systems. Larger systems are much more stable and tolerant of mistakes.;)

Hiding other equipment and the skimmer is definitely a plus. I really want to keep my DT clean of any equipment.

what ever is the largest that you can hide. i always try for 40b or larger. but you did not say what size tank you are running.

Sorry. DT will be a 36gal bow, predrilled with 1" bulkhead overflow.

While all the info above is correct, if at all possible try 20% of DT size.

Agreed...The bigger the better. Makes it easier on you and the tank in the end..

i'm assuming you're gonna wanna house a sump/fuge/protein skimmer at least, and then you're gonna wanna at least have room for a power failure, so a 20 gallon tank may be minimum for ya, maybe a 10 if ya cramp the stuff in!

Definitely thinking fuge section/return section/skimmer section in the sump and using 20 gal tank @ 24"L x 12"W x 16"H. Want to use an AquaC Urchin that has a footprint of 8 1/4" x 7 1/2" w/ pump. Would that work?
