    PO4,Si and No3 what are those? man I gotta invest in some more tests.....is there a kit that you can get that has EVERYTHING you need to test for saltwater?

    SG 1.028
    pH8.6
    KH 20
    NH3(ammonia) 0 mg/l
    NO2, <0.3 mg/l(test doesn't go lower)
    Calcium 500
    Magnesium 1140

    this is all the testers I have

    PO4=phosphate
    Si=silicate
    NO3=nitrate

    KH=alkalinity
    the value of KH is measured in meq/l or dKH
    which one are you measuring in

    i use salifert test kits
    very accurate

    and yes a refugium is a filter if set up correctly. if you have a sump could run carbon/phos remover. i use seachem gel, best of both worlds

    Hey cuttingras, you might need to buy a UV filter. That should take care of the problem, it did for me when My water turned green after my cleaning lady used windex to clean the outside glass. I hope this helps, Luna

    Luna...windex on the outside is a no no?? I've been doing that the whole time. I spray the paper towel NOT near the tank(another room) and wipe. hmmm can windex leach thru the glass?

    I was always told NEVER to clean the outside glass with a glass cleaner. The tank is a big sponge that absorbs EVERYTHING around it. I think that you have just solved your problem. To make along story short, as stated before, my X cleaning lady one day decided to clean the glass with some kind of glass cleaner. The very next day my whole tank was green( very small green particles) everywhere. I couldnt even see the back glass. As a result, I lost three corals and I had to buy a UV filter($140.00) to clear up the water. All I use is two pieces of paper towels, one wet with tap water and the other dry to whipe off the glass, thats it!!!! Yes my friend, THATS been your problem all this time, I guarantee it!

    NO kidding! Think we've solved it? I used to have one that came with my first skimmer ViaAqua Multi skimmer... the skimmer was junk, but I did use the uv chamber that came with it for a while. When I moved here I stopped using it,,,,,hmmmmm 2 things,,,NO WINDEX and Get a uv filter,,,,

    I've been searching filters and have found this one.

    I got my replacement filters for the ro/di today. I hooked them up and have ran about 1 gallon of water thru them and they are at 48ppm. I guess that is as good as it gets. It's never been lower. Will a fuge take care of the rest of the junk that's in the water?

    I think you're supposed to run more than 1 gallon of water through an r.o. unit before you use the water but it's been a long time since I had to break in new membranes (that's the hubby's job) :) Run a few more gallons through the unit and take another reading.

    Oh, and I have always used Windex on the aquarium glass with no problems. I just do like you and spray it onto a paper towel, not directly onto the glass.
