Hi, I need some help. I have on my refugium little pieces of red cottony substance and they keep getting bigger and all over. Any tips I may or may not be doing. Thank you.

Also I forgot in the main tank I have a bunch of green hair algae. I already cleaned every rock but it came back again. I did it again but this time I am leaving the light off for a week. I don't have a that much soft coral. will that be ok or any other suggestions?

What else is in your fug?

One good way of reducing the light is to split the lighting cycle into two. Use a timer and time the lights to come on for 3 hours, go off for an hour and then on again for 3 hours, or something like that :) A friend of mine did this and it helped break the algae growth.

You will also need to look at water parameters and let us know how old the tank is.

    Cheers

    John

John, would the timer thing not hurt the macro algae?

I probably would slow down the growth of macro.

In my post I was referring to the main tank :) instead of turning the lights off alltogether as was suggested by pvmex.

Oh OK, I thought you were talking about turning the light off to kill the stuff in the fuge. Sorry about that.
