Anyone here kept one/ had experience with them?

I never see them mentioned anymore... seems like most folks have given up on them...

I'm just wondering if anyone is keeping one with success?

What are the problems associated with keeping them? Is it difficult getting them to eat a proper diet?

They are very sensitive to water quality issues. I have 4 or 5 customers that had great success with them but I think it's because they paid extra for them ad I kept them in the QT warehouse for a couple of months. It was laid back, semi-lit, and they only saw a single person a couple of times per day rather than having hundreds of people staring at them daily. They are freaky skittish, and I know that helped. I also paid extra money to get Red Sea Regal's. I treated for parasites prophylactically rather than waiting to observe proof of parasites or infections.

With all of the above said, if you don't feed them properly (i.e. food high in sponge content, seaweed, and meat along with vitamins and HUFA additions), you aren't going to keep it long. It seems like if they get sick and stop eating, it's darn-near impossible to get them eating again.

They eat sponges in the wild, so I would enrich its food with Brightwell Aquatics Angelixir. This is what got my Flagfin eating. Another good bet is to make sure it is bigger than most inhabitants of your tank, while still getting a smallish one (I would plan stocking around it). Keep the freeswimming fish to a minimum in a smaller tank and get one from the Red Sea, not Indo, they seem to fare better on many accounts. Overall one of my favorite fish ever.
