Might want to try and find a different LFS too, that is some horrible advice IMO. I feed half a sheet of nori to my tank every day and never have any ammonia problems. I have never heard of offering algae wafers to anything but freshwater plecos and maybe for saltwater inverts. If you put copper in your tank you will kill all your inverts and your live rock will be junk.

The best way to prevent ich from getting into your main system is to set up a quarantine / hospital tank for any new fish you get. That way you can watch them closely for a few weeks for any signs of diseases / parasites and treat easily. Its also easier to get fish to eat if there alone in a smaller tank, and easier to clean up anything uneaten.

I've ordered some Nori Seaweed, will get that in the tank as soon as it arrives.

    300l is about 80 gallons.

Be aware that this fish will grow to around a foot long (30.5cm) and will need a bigger tank at some point.

What are the dimensions of the tank? If it is a longer tank you will be able to keep him for a longer time.

    Dimensions are 121 x 51 x 62 cm

Surely it will be a while (like a year or two) before he outgrew an 80gal tank?

Out of curisosity, what happens if you keep fish in tanks that are too small for them?

    48" x 20" x 24" for us non metric using people;)

How big is the tang now?

I would think that you could keep him until maybe 7 inches or so.

He's a baby so pretty small, probably 1 inch long.

Once he hits 7-8" I would start looking to either trade him back for another baby tang, or upgrade to a 6' tank. Tangs can get very testy and stressed if not given enough elbow room. They also need a lot of dissolved oxygen in the water and the larger the footprint of your tank the more gas exchange can occur.

If it is a standard tank size, yeah a tang like this would like a 6 foot tank. Now if you do a custom tank that is really wide, then a 6 foot tank is not necessary;) I won't have any issue housing even full grown tangs in my 193g that happens to be shorter than 6 feet long;)

It is all about the amount of water you have, as the tang will need more space to swim, and they eat a lot, and therefore excrete a lot. The bigger the tank the better.

How long will it take him to grow to 7/8"?
