I have a Cadlights 39g signature that took about 25 gallons to fill, with rock and sand. Looking at an AquaC Remora nano, rated at 20 gallons. You think this would be sufficient? Currently running a Prizm hob that's noisy, and sits so high above water level that it struggles to draw water in efficiently. Skims okay, still, but have to re-prime every time I shut down to feed. Also run a small refugium section with chaeto and a 4" sandbed. Currently running 0 on nitrates and phosphates.

i have an aquac remora pro on my 55 and love it. A friend of mine has a Hydor nano slim skim on a 29 and i love it too. Its cheaper, and rated for 35 gallons. Its SUPER quiet, and surface skims. I would take a look at the hydor if it was me. Only draw back is its in tank, but has a small footprint. Im about to set up a 29 and im going with the hydor.

I had a cadlights 22 gal that I used a rinse 9002 on that worked great.

All your feedback is much appreciated.,

With respect to the slim-skim and tunze - I've looked at both. Ideally, my water level in that tank should be 4 inches below the rim in the rear sump section. That puts those internal ones way down in there, and would be a total PITA to work on and adjust. How sensitive to water level are the tunze and slim-skim? ATO is in the works, but don't have one yet, and fluctuate over 1/2 inch morning to evening.

Also would prefer the cup above the tank, so I can fit it with some kind of overflow drain.

I highly recommend not going with the overflow drain on an Aquac skimmer. Youre just asking for a flood. Mine goes nuts sometimes and can fill the collection cup in a matter of minutes. Ive read alot of horror stories about it just about draining tanks.

So, you're saying no drain on the collection cup, for risk of it draining the water level? If it goes nuts without the drain, what happens?

If it starts acting crazy and collecting water and the collection cup fills up fast, it will just collect up to the top of the neck and stop. It will not overflow. Mine did it several times when i set my tank up. Anytime i stir the sand up, or switch out my carbon, or i recently added a phosphate reactor....... the skimmer acts crazy for a little while and either wont skim, or collects straight water. Other than a few little hiccups, great skimmer though.

I would recommend an Aquamaxx HOB-1 (aka JNS-VS1 same skimmer). It is a BEAST and dead silent.

the newest model's of the aquac actually have a silencer around the injector now, similar to that of the "aquac silencer mod"(search youtube) but, ya I have this newest edition and mine makes virtually no noise...Never seen one complaint about aquac's minus the noise, and like I said the newest ones corrected this issue.
