I have a friend that has a 75g fowlr tank. It will be heavily stock most likely borderline overstocked. They currently have a large canister filter on the tank, but I made the suggesting of adding a HOB protein skimmer. which of these would be the best to add. If there is a better one for a sub $250 price point that is hang on the back let me know.

My friend has asked me if the skimmer is really needed. I believe it is; however if i'm wrong please let me know. she is loking at 1 bistletooth tang, 1 dwarf angel, 1 butterfly, 3 chromis, 2 clowns, 1 hawk fish, and maybe 1-3 three other small fish.

The canister filter will be maintained biweekly on the alternate weekend to the water change.

    Thanks for the help.

Can anyone explain the drop backs of having a large bio load and not having a skimmer. Also, I read in the skimmer sticky that a good target is a skimmer at 125% of total volume. my total volume is maybe 60g after factoring in rock volume. would the bh1000 or the dbh300 work also?

    Thanks for the help

The skimmer is a must and it takes out the organic before it turns into harmful chemical. Normally it was suggested that 200% is ideal, I got a Coralife 65 for my 20G tank + 10G sum, just slightly over 200%.8)
