Does anyone know how to set up the remora - c to skim the surface water?
Thought I read about in a thread somewhere, zero info in the manual. I always have these patches of stuff floating around & use a net to remove it.
One less chore would be nice! - Will

i have the pre-skimmer on my remora (mj 1200) and it works wonders. it's tricky to keep the right level of water in the tank throughout the day though. fill the tank too much and it won't skim properly....let the water evaporate too much and you'll hear the dreaded "gargle"....

Well just ordered the box and looked at the directions using the above link.
I see what you mean about the water level, my 55 gal will lose about an inch a day easy with the mh going. I guess its like " oh sh*t" when you hear that gargle sound. lol

i think i read somewhere that you can modify the box by drilling a hole in the bottom to prevent the powerhead from running dry...i'll have to do some poking around to find the info...

I have also read somewhere that you can completely unscrew one of the two screws that are used to hold the pump in place and that can be used as your hole instead of drilling a completely new hole. I have tried this on my preskimmer and the pump did not run dry. It did, however, prevent it from skimming the surfacing efficiently. I purchased the preskimmer because I was a) sick of the surface scum and b) tired of all the microbubbles.

HOWEVER, I no longer use mine. I left both screws in so that it would skim properly, but everyday after I came home from work, I would here a loud gargling sound due to the water evaporation. Even on the weekend, it would only take a few hours for the water to evaporate just enough to create the noise. You have to position the inflow just right to skim the surface, but it would be too easily run dried. So I just took the screw out, but the surface scum reappeared. It was not worth all the space taken up in the main tank just to use as a bubble filter, so I took the preskimmer and put it with my large pile of unused hardware.

I am not saying it is a bad product or a good product. I am just saying that this is my experience and I would return the product if I could. Good luck to you.

Imagine, are there any issues with microbubbles at all without the bubble trap?
