    Hello-

My Remora skims great, but I am finding that before the skimmate pushes into the collection cup, a lot of it flows around the bottom plate of the cup, and actually starts collecting foam under the cup.

I guess the bottom part of the cup doesn't fit snug into that section of the skimmer, so foam flows around it. Has anyone else experienced this?

    thanks,

    Jano

No, check to see if the baffles are loose on the inside.

baffles seem to be solid. thanks for the idea, though.

my cup is not a tight fit either but works o.k. ive heard of a mod to help shim up that gap up. i think they used a small piece of small air line tube.cut a slit down the lenth of it then slid it over one or more of the sides of the base of the cup. enough to fill in the gap. easy and cheap try.:)

That's a good idea, when I had mine, the cup was a little loose, I guess that's just the design of it, but I never had this problem. I would maybe get a very small amount of foam that crept up the outside of the cup, but nothing bad at all.

I noticed the same thing when I first got mine. I ended up wrapping a few slim pieces of duct tape around the base of the collection cup to form a tighter seal. Worked great, the skimmate production increased dramatically. So much so that the next problem I faced was too much foam coming up the neck of the cup and out of the air port on the lid, drying up and crusting over, essentially sealing it. I've considered drilling another hole of the same size on the side of the lid.. Not sure how it would effect performance though..

edit: when I say base of the collection cup, I'm talking about the base of the up tube not the collection cup itself.. Here's some pictures of what I mean. This is after 2 1/2 days of skimming.. Notice the crusting skimmate on the lid.. This is actually a pretty small amount of crusting ontop. I've had a 2-3 inch column of foam coming out of that hole and 1/2 the top of the lid covered in crust after a long weekend. I have a feeling sealing this hole reduces the skimmers effectiveness..

Thanks for the responses- I called Aqua C and it was suggested maybe try the airline tubing sliced in half trick. I also like the duct tape idea- think I'll try that first!

    thanks again folks!

You posted about having the bubbles come up under the collection cup....did you find a solution that worked? I have the same issue, just lately....and I'm finding my tank's nitrates are rising because of it.
