Great advice. I will get in contact with them. I'm trying to make my tank as "vacation" friendly as I can (so if I leave for a week, I can have a novice watch it and feed pre-measured amounts), but a overzealous skimmer will make that a bit more difficult :)

I know some people do not use ro/di water for top offs and instead use tap water and pour in some kind of de-chorinator or water treatment.. (which I wouldn't recommend) IF you are doing this, most water treatments as such will make your skimmer do exactly what its doing, overflow.

Just a thought. don't know if that's what your doing or not.

I don't trust my water. Use RO stuff from the Grocery store. Thanks though! Tap water sounds like a terrible idea. Glad I decided early on not to use it!

Hmm... Maybe try ro/di water from another source? While grocery stores ro machines are usually way better than running tap, they usually don't change their filters when they should and just ro water without the di stage, is almost guaranteed to not be 0 tds.

The only reason I'm saying all this is because when skimmers go crazy like that, it's usually because something is in the water that makes it bubble more than usual, thus filling and overflowing your skimmer cup uncontrollably..

I used to have the same problem with my remora until I purchased an ro/di. Hasn't happened since. hopefully you get it figured out. Until I did, it was not fun.

Ya. I think I am going to just put the cup as high as I can, let it go crazy and prepare for the massive flow of water.

If your gonna just let it skim the water and overflow, keep checking your salinity. You might have to top off with salt water instead of ro/di.

I'm going to assume that all the water taken out will be saltwater, so it should be replaced with saltwater. Salinity swings with this (replacing saltwater, and some fresh to account for evap) are my biggest concern right now I think!

when mine was in the break in stage i ran the drain tube back to the tank...saves the head-ache of the break in period :)
