I thought about that. But based on the color of the water, I'd rather not add it back into my tank!

Def not as dark as it should be (by a long shot). But adding new water instead of the rust colored water back into the tank seems like the best option :)

if its not stinky and black..its not gonna hurt lettin it go back into the tank...the nasty stuff will be more pastey and stick to the acrylic anyway...adding new saltwater just seems to be a waste of money, cuz until its broken in your not gonna get any REAL skimmate...and believe me...u'll know when its real skimmate

Well, I will put the drainage hose into a 5 gallon bucket and put the cup as high as it can. My hose length makes putting it back in the tank difficult. Then I guess I can judge it if overflows again if I wanna put it back in my tank.

Right now, I'd have to do a saltwater water replacement anyways... since half of the water ended up on my floor :)

My thinking is, it doesn't always have to be dark and smelly to mean it's tanking stuff out of the water. For instance, the water de-chlorinator that I mentioned earlier will make it skim like that until it skims it all out. The skim that it produces is almost clear. You would think that its just water, but it's taking out the stuff you put in.

So, we don't know if it's still just breaking in, OR actually something in the water that it's trying to get out. If it's the latter, putting the water back in will result in a never ending cycle.

From my experience, the remora always skims slightly on the wet side, rather than thick, Black, smelly gunk that you can get with an in sump skimmer. That's how mine has been for the last three years anyways.. Have to empty it about once a week. And it looks almost like dark green tea.

Also, the reason it's overflowing is because you have the drain hose on there. If you end up wanting to wait it out and see if it's still just breaking in, I would plug the drain hole until it's no longer going crazy. The way the remora works, without the drain hole, when the cup is full, it will just drain back in to the skimmer itself until you empty the cup. Mine never overflowed like that while breaking In, BUT I did add it to an established tank. Usually the reason a skimmer has to break in is because the "manufacturing oils" from the plastic keep it from skimming. Once the bacteria and slime coats the inside of the skimmer that becomes a non-issue. I'm thinking that as long as there isn't something in your water it's trying to rid, then it's just taking alot longer to develop the slime on the inside of the skimmer so it can start functioning properly.

Whew, and that's about all my ideas and actual experiences with that skimmer. Good luck. I'm curious to see how it turns out. It's almost guaranteed to fix itself in just a little longer and from that point it will just be speculation as to the actual cause, but more than likely the lack of the slime coat in the skimmer.

I put my cup as high as I could, and wrapped the drain house around my tank and have it feeding back into the tank right now. I didnt read your post about plugging the drainhole before I left the house today. I probably woulda taken that advice!

When I left, the foam I saw was def MUCH drier than before (until seeing this foam, I didnt realize how wet the otherstuff was). I think what I am seeing, though it's not very dark, is more what I am looking for. Hopefully it'll break in more and be good!

I will also post my response from aquaC if they have anything new to say :)

Here is what I got overnight. It looked about the same yesterday. I'd say it's much better than I was getting before:

I got an email from the company, and they said it's most likely just from my skimmer kicking in and having a new tank for it to cleanup.
