    Quick question:

I just got a AquaC Remora HoB skimmer with the drainage fitting on the collection cup. What size tubing fits on this? Looks to me to be about 1/2"????

Anyone know for sure so that I can run to the hardware store and grab some tomorrow morning?

    Thanks in advance!

I belive it is 1/2 inch. I dont have a clamp on mine and works fine but its up to you. You will be happy with the skimmer after the break in time. Good luck !!

It seems like it's going to drain about a gallon every ten minutes during the break-in time based on the way it was running when I plugged it in!!!

This will slow down so that I can go to work without a flood eventually, right???

1/2" ID (inner diameter) tubing. It's filling up fast because it's still breaking in, most likely. If not, did you recently add anything into the tank? Some chemicals will cause a skimmer to go nuts like that.

I ran my over flow hose back into the tank for the first week or so.

Having the usual break-in issues (at least I hope they're usual). Lots of micro-bubbles and all clear and very watery skimmate so far, no nasty stuff. I even have the collection cup set pretty high.

Running the drainage tube back into my tank for now. I want it to be immediately perfect...but I'm trying to exercise the patience that this hobby demands. :D

BTW: If anyone gets an AquaC Remora HOB skimmer with the collection cup fitted for a drain hose the correct tubing size is 5/8"...I got 1/2" tubing to fit, but it was a lot of work. It involved heating a butter-knife over my stove and making the tubing a bit more pliable and then stretching it over the drain-barb. Not fun, but I didn't feel like fighting NYC traffic to go to a home depot after buying the wrong size.

If you are getting a lot of wet foam, maybe raise the collection cup higher, it wont hurt, you will get less wet-thats what I did with mine in the beggining-I did not get the one with the drain in the collection cup.

Not real sure how well it is to drain the "overflow" back into your tank, if I understand that correctly.

I would raise the cup get less "wet skim". after that stuff skims it is more concentrated GUNK and putting it back into the tank is not a good idea-IMO.

Yeah, of course it won't go back into the tank once it's really skimming. That would kind of defeat the entire purpose of even having the thing. It's just during the break-in period and it's manufacturer recommended. My skimmate is absolutely clear right now. I have the collection cup almost as high as it will go. I'm sure it will start skimming the gunk soon...seems like everyone goes through this when they first get them from what I've read on this and other forums.

5/8" hosing, is 1/2" hosing as odd as that sounds. 5/8" is the OD, 1/2" is the ID of the hose. If you get 1/2" hose, meaning outer diameter, you are getting 3/8" inner diameter, which will be very hard to get to work.
