My Aqua C Remora seems to do ok with the maxijet 1200 but, never willing to leave well-enough alone, after reading some of the old threads, I decided to replace the MJ with a Via Aqua 1300. It does skim more but is REALLY noisy. I guess the noise is from the high flow or pressure through the venturi but it sounds almost like a high frequency rattle. Has anyone who replaced the MJ with a bigger pump had this problem. I am thinking about switching back if there is no solution to the noise.

I went to a MagDrive 5 on mine and love it.
Is there a way to tone down that Via Aqua 1300?
Is the Via Aqua 1300 touching anthing else that may be rattling at an odd frequecy?

I can probably replumb it with the variable discharge valve but prefer not to since it only increases the volume from 295 gph with the MJ to 370 with the Via Aqua. It isn't touching anything and the noise does not actually come from the pump (which is submerged) but from the skimmer. I don't think it is a "mechanical rattle" but not sure.

370gph is pretty low in comparison to a mag drive 5. Maybe you just need to do a good cleaning and see if something is clogged in the skimmer.

I took a piece of acryllic and cut a small strip to fit 1/2 way over the the top 1/2 of the water return opening and it cut down on the noise. I just taped it to the skimmer. You can use any type of plastic to do the same thing.
