Remove brace to insert sump?

    Couldn't have said it better myself. As long as the corner uprights are below/holding the weight of the horizontal 2x6's, you should be OK knocking out the center brace. If/when you replace it, you might consider shimming in the center brace so that it supports the weight of the the horizontal member running under the tank. That's the way it's usually done.

    I'm not to worried about the design of the stand as all the vertical pieces are under the top. I'm not sure what the purpose of the 2x4 frame was. If I added the extra vertical braces it would make the under cabinet area ever smaller then it already is.

    Ok well change of plans. I got the ok from the wife to purchase a new tank and redo everything. The idea was to save space so I'm getting a smaller tank and have everything in one cabinet (hopefully). Hopefully there will be a build thread for that. Gong to be either a 30x30x12 or 30x31x15.
