Is it possable i could remove the bioballs in the sump and replace them with Red Mangrove Propagule? It will help remove my nitrates and it sounds cheaper and cooler! Has anyone tried this??

And or is there any spots in the Biocube that you can place a Mangrove?? Like by the intake?

You can try. I would remove the bioballs anyways though. They are annoying b/c they need to be cleaned frequently and every time you clean them, you kill the bacteria population. You would need to make sure the mangroves have light and you need to watch their roots and the roots can tear apart tanks.

I'd just clean and keep the bioballs. you could add some chaeto into the DT. it works wonders for nitrate removal. still need to do a couple WC now though.. as the chaeto gets bigger, removing some from tank will help export nutrients.

Probably your best bet is the center chamber. I know many people have transformed that into a refuge (the new version of the Biocube comes standard that way). Sounds like a good idea but you may want to just run Chaeto in the chamber, scratch the black paint off the back and place a refuge light so you do not have to mess with the lid (not sure how the mangrooves would grow otherwise).

If the lid is open and you have a MH light then it is the new version. It also comes standard with a refuge light on the back. If you got one for $25.00 then your the luckiest guy I know. They are selling for around $450-500.00.
