best to get the largest tank possible when first starting out, and led's over that tank are far from what you say irrational. it actually would make more sense to go led's because it is cheap for such a small tank, i have a panorama module over my 5 gallon tank and i can grow anything. you could get a little off brand led strip light and grow plenty of soft coral and save loads on bills.

im sure you have already decided to ditch the clowns and the nem but ill just say again you couldnt really even keep one in that small of a tank. you could maybe do a pair of clown gobies or something. as corrailine said i would start with very simple corals to begin with.

also an anemone will not fit in that tank unless its a mini maxi. and if they die your tank is pretty much gone as in a small tank like that theres no coming back from that. no room for error in the pico tank biz.

I have a 5g with an AC70 and koralia nano, its been running since September. It's got LED lighting. I love it but definitely glad it isn't what I started the hobby with... No fish, 3 sexy shrimp, 2 snails, 2 hermits and various coral. Good luck. Keep up with the topoffs, the amount if topoffs still amazes me although its a small tank.

New development: There's a vermitid (sp?) snail on some of my live rock, should it stay, or go?

    New!

Okay I bought 2 baby hermit crabs, and they're goin' to town on the algae in my tank. A friend of mine gave me 3 frogspawn frags, and a candycane frag (I think that's what it's called anyway). Check em out!

Congrats on your new adds! Astrea snails are my favorites.

The best snails for that hair algae are turbo snails - they demolish that stuff in no time! For a 5 gallon you could have just one.

Well the Astrea i have in there now has a shell about the size of a quarter around. Should I get more or just get a Turbo and keep em both?
