I have been fighting algae bloom, It has moved into refugium. I Just took out one of the rocks from lighted refugium and placed in dark sump. Will this kill the algae? Will this also kill the coralline algie?

I dunno about the little white flowes but I would definately not want the bryopsis in my refugium. Have you tried raising the magnesium levels to get rid of it?

no I don't have magnesium test kit. I make lots of h2o changes. I will invest in one and check. The little white flowers seem to be on just one rock.look like 1/16 inch dasies. Should I put more snails in refugium

I have no idea what the little white flowers are but you should probably get a test kit and start dosing. Is it one rock or all over the place? I would raise levels to around 1500 to get rid of it. It can go for long periods of time without light. Most snails will not eat bryopsis but I used to see my redstriped trochus snails graze on it. I think you will be more succesful with the magnesium then the snails though.

Oh yea, don't raise the mg fast. Do it over a period of 2weeks or more depending on what your current levels are.

thanks i will try that. I hope that at some point I will win this war with it. I have no desire to start over with this tank. For starters I could not afford it. I think I will get a better skimmer and hope that will help. Right now I am trying alot of different things. I am staying positive.

I fought bryopsis and have tentatively won. I tried raising mag and that didn't do anything, my lights are new, I cut back on feeding a lot, I pulled it off the rock, a bad idea because then it just spreads. I took some rocks out and bleached the section, didn't kill all of it. What worked for me was to cover it with epoxy, the stuff used to hold lr together. It took a while, but I ripped of what I could from each patch and covered it with the epoxy. Then let it sit for about 2 months, took it off and it hasn't grown back yet, been about a month. It takes while too because when you rip it off, it spreads and reappears in a different spot in about a week, no matter how careful you are. So then you have to cover that spot up etc. Some species you will be able to eliminate by raising your mag, as well as nutrient reduction and so on. But my type didn't flinch at any of that. If you get really desperate, there is a product called ultra algae x that is designed to kill all types of macroalgae and is reef safe, you could try that, but its expensive, about $60 for the big bottle.
