HI, I was just wondering if I have to leave the ceramic ring on coral frags when I want to place them on rock. Do I cut the coral off of the ring then glue it onto the rock or do I do something else?

    Thank you

    you mean the frag plug?

some people just break the coral off, I do this with lps. With acros I grind it down to a smaller size I can use.

LPS are Large Polyp Stony corals - corals that have a solid skeleton on which they grow and in general have a higher flesh to skeleton ratio when fully expanded

examples are Bubble Coral, Torch Coral, Elegance coral, Brain coral etc

Acro's are Acropora species of corals and they along with other species are reffered to as SPS corals which is small polyp stony corals they also have a skeleton, but the polyps are a lot smaller

to me, it depends on what the frag plug looks like , once the coral starts growing, it will eventually make the plug impossible to see anyway so I tend to leave mine on

You'll probably do more harm then good removing them from the plug, and it will take time for them to recover

I just cut or grind mine down to a smaller sizeand find a nice size nook in my rock then glue it down

You could probably use a hack saw or even better would be a dremel tool to grind the disk down.
