i used tap water to get my tank back up. now i am only using DI water. is it possible to remove every trace of tap water out of the tank over time by doing regular water changes and top offs with DI? its only a 28 gal tank. Im not really worried about it because my tank looks good. Im just curious

I think you will be fine doing water changes, and if you arent having any water quality issues you should be fine, it will eventually dilute it self. A lot of people start with tap onyl to find out that it was a mistake

If it looks good than don't worry about it. You probably do harm to ur system if you change too much water at a time. There is no knowing how much tap is left in ur tank, but check ur nitrate and phosphate. If they are good than you are good

ya im not worried about it at all. Im just curious if over time it will only be DI water and all the elements of tap water will be gone.

If you really want to see the effect take an 8 oz glass of water and put some red food dye into it then remove 2oz and replace with fresh water a few times to see how quickly the color fades to clear. I don't know that you can ever "remove" it since it's all mixed but you can dilute it so greatly with DI that any negative effects of tap water are eliminated and there will be a virtual zero amount left.
