Right - now some of you will think that this is a weird request but....

How can i kill xenia? I normally cut it out and away from the other coral in the tank. I had a good go at it the other week and then went on a holiday. I have come back to even more xenia then ever before. Parts were i have cut it out are growing back really thick, and the pre-existing stuff is thick strong and doing its best to cover everything. The stuff has even taken to somehow jumping to the other side of the tank and little bits a popping up everwhere! Even on top of my powerhead!!
I regret the day i ever put it in :pissed: its surrounding my anemone and it still grows!! the anemones sting dont seem to bother it??

So back to the post, how can i nuke it? :rifle: taking the rock out and pouring hot water on it is not something i want to do.

cut it off from the bottom of the stem, then get a knife or razor and scrape the rest off, have your powerheads off while you do this to stop it floating around and just net the bits out, this as always worked for me....

Cheers for the input mate - that is what i normally do, but even where i have scraped it from the rock, its growing back and rather quickly.

As you're cutting and scraping... notice the little bits that get caught up in the current... these bits are why it is popping up all over the place. Turning off PH is a good suggestion.

I would cut the big sections out and put picking lime (kalwasser) paste over whatever is left whereever in the tank. Just cover the spot up with the paste.

Recently did this to my anthelia problem... works like a charm.

Well i normally do turn the ph off, but yes - of course that must be the reason why its popping up all over the tank! So kalkwasser??! Just spread it over it? Is this detrimental to any other invert in the tank - particularly anemones? as its the anemones rock im most interested in cleaning this stuff off and also around where its overcrowding my many discosoma.

This stuff 'burned' the tentacles on my hammer... hammer retracted away from it... two days later, I could no longer find damage on the hammer... paste still there.

Here is my thread on subject: http://www.3reef.com/forums/coral/will-kill-anthelia-60718.html

I have a pic with the paste applied in there... might help.

yeah I used kalk to recently remove some anthelia in my tank....no different then treating aptasia wiht it. You want to get as much of it as possible manually, but there is always going to be some foot in your rock and such that will pop back up. So that is where I used the kalk (I did this in my parents tank...mine just disappeared mysteriously!)If some kalk was dropped on the other corals I quickly took a turkey baster and blasted it off the good coral to keep it from getting burned.

I just pinch the clump/colony between my Thumb and pointer knuckle and tear it off. Everything usually comes off at once. Sometimes you will have to find the best angle to pull. I just get after it with no mercy.
