Replacing MH Bulb on "Old" Oddysea fixture

    Hi everyone, this is my first post on the site. I have been looking for answers to a question about replacing a MH bulb and i hope someone can help.
    I bought a used 446W MH fixture with one 250W double ended bulb and two 96 watt pc a year ago. This is the first time i replace the MH bulb so i ordered it from Aquatreders. i just got the bulb and put it in but no go. I called them and they said if my fixture is more than two years old new bulbs might not work. Has anyone heard of this?
    How do i get a bulb that will work with an odyssea fixture more than two years old?
