I have a 75g reef that has basically things that are PC safe (mushrooms, polyps) and I looking to replace the bulbs in my PC fixture. It currently has 2 Odyssea 12,000k, 1 Odyssea True Actinic, and 1 Coralife Actinic of nknown age. If you had the choice of these two combos which would you go with? Thanks.

    2 Coralife 10000k 65W
    2 Coralife Actinics 65W

    or

    2 Current Sunpaq 6700ºK/10000ºK 65W
    2 Current Sunpaq 420/460nm 65W

IMO, coralife bulbs do not produce light at the proper wavelengths to benefit most corals. I have a small tank that can only fit coralife 50/50 bulbs and most of my corals lived just fine, but they colors were dull and they did not grow/reproduce.

Now I use Odyssea bulbs. I know many people on here are down on Odyssea lighting and they may be right. All I can say is that my experience has taught me to choose Odyssea over Coralife. Besides, 12000K is better than 10000K. Make sure the bulbs aren't too old.

I use Coralife bulbs on my soft coral reef, and have been really happy with them. Never had any issues.

As to the age of the bulbs, make sure you change them out frequently...6-9 months is the schedule I use (I shoot for 6...and usually rememeber to get it done by 9 :) ). I let my bulbs go almost 12 months the last time and started to have algae issues...as soon as I changed the bulbs, things cleared right up.

Yeah, sometimes I wonder if it was something about the size/design of the lights too. My 5g has 2 Coralife 10w 50/50 bulbs. They are u-shaped tubes and the ballast is included on the bulb. It just never seemed to put out enough light. When I put the corals in the new tank with the new lights, they basically exploded with new colors and growth. Interestingly, those little Coralifes grew corallina like crazy! Some places have layers that are 1/4 inch thick. There could be several factors at play.

I just added a Marine-Glo actinic to my 20. I don't know anything about the brand but it looks really cool.
