I was just getting ready to put water in my 135 gallon when we discovered a leak. we lifted it up with a little bit of water still inside and when it tilted a certain way water was leaking out of the bottom. so i went and got some sealant and razors and am about to get started but i figured i should probably check to make sure the sealant is safe for the fishies.

I have had this question myself.

The aquarium silicone says 100% silicone and so does this silicone tube. If they are both 100% silicone whats the difference?

I have heard (or rather read in other post) that if it says 100% silicone it is reef safe. I used the GE brand from home depot when i built my overflow box and to re-silicone my glass sump. Have only freshwater tested it though so i cant guarantee you its safe or not for reef. But i am confident it is.

Any 100% silicone should do fine, but coming from the metal roofing buisness, not all are created equal. From my personal experience nothing can outlast a geocel brand of silicone. While more expensive, it is really really worth it. The only think that i know that outlasts geocel would be an everseal glue, but that isnt safe for reef as its not silicone =) Try looking at your local hardware suppliers or your local lowes or home depot and try to get either 8125 high perfomance voc free 100% silicone. Geocel also makes an aquarium sealant but it is in smaller bottles and more expensive, try googling it.

I've used GE type I clear. But Dap works also. I think companies have to put not for aquarium use or not for underwater use on the label for liability reasons. Don't quote me on that though.
