I've been curing some LR since June 6th, when I did some rearranging. I took out of my display tank about 50 lbs. of LR, and have had it in a 20 gallon, covered Rubbermaid tote with a powerhead and oxygenation. I've changed the water a couple of times, swishing the rocks each time.

My last swish, I removed a piece of rock from the tote and placed it in my tank. Only about 10 days ago did I notice some palys on that piece of rock.

    Tonight they opened up.

I think it's a feat of nature that these polyps have been in complete darkness 24/7 in water that's not the cleanest, and made it through.

I wonder if some of the grunge expelled from the rock during the curing process might have kept the polyps fed.

Nice! It's amazing that something beautiful survived that. I have to ask because they look similar to one that popped out a rock that had been in my system for months....
Are they kind of tan-ish brown with very long lashy looking tentacles, black stripes radiating toward the mouth and bright neon green around the mouth?

    no doubt. :)

Sort of. :) Not too terribly neon, but you can see their slight glow in the actinic. There's no black striping. Otherwise, your description is pretty accurate. I'd say it's your run of the mill palythoa, or button polyp.

Now you've got me thinking of Mary Poppins and Julie Andrews. Do you recall Dennis Farina's description of "London," from the movie, Snatch? :)
