Setting up a used system I bought (no water in the tank)
i had my metal halides and t12s plugged in to take a look at everything

There was a plug labeled "intake fan" so i figured this was to turn the fan on the canopy on. It wasnt. Sparks flew so i unplugged it quickly, the metal halides popped and turned off.

I looked to see where the plug was coming from, and it appears to just "end" inside the canopy, in these pictures

I'm no electrical wiz but it looks like both wires are connected to each other. That I know is a no no.I would look to see if there is a loose end on the fan in the canopy and match wire colors. If there is nothing loose, get rid of the fire hazard.

+1 to the above. Looks like something was removed from the canopy and they just cut the wires.

I agree with the above two post, but I would also make sure there is nothing metal nailed through any of the wires. Also, if the wires don't lead to anything, then I would just remove them.

Let that be a lesson to always check those things when buying something used! I feel kinda dumb now for not noticing that when I got it lol

everything is on now and seems to be working good. I took out those cords so they never accidentally get plugged in again
