So I have a Cuban Hogfish that is currently in QT and will be for at least another 2 weeks. The fish is about 3", looking healthy and eating well. I am rethinking if this a fish that would be appropriate in the long-run for my 240. I am worried that at some point it may become aggressive toward some of my smaller fish (clowns, chalk bass) since it can get to be 8"-10" in length. I looked online to see what other's experiences have been and it seems like inverts are easily consumed (which I don't have) and it is a mixed bag when it comes to smaller fish.

Is it reasonable to assume that this fish will be a peaceful community member? I realize that there are no guarantees but I also don't want to push the limits.

    Opinions?

    hummm.. interesting what Liveaquaria says

This is a very good fish for the novice with a large tank. It is docile and generally safe with all animals and invertebrates, except crustaceans. Tank mates should be larger than a Wrasse. Though it poses little threat even to smaller fish, it can be intimidating at feeding time.

The mature adult Cuban Hogfish will eat snails, worms, mussels, small fish, shrimp, and squid.

I bought a hogfish on an impulse buy years ago.......I hated that fish with a passion......inverts-eaten in days and it quickly became the bully of the tank even for his small size.

I let it go on for a bit until I caught him eating my other smaller fish, they will eat about anything they can get in there mouth, and they have a pretty good sized mouth.

IME I would never own another. However since then,I have heard of people keeping them without trouble if they're in a large enough tank and proper tank mates of equal or greater size.

I think you are both right. Now I am wondering if I should scrap my plan of adding a Harlquin Tusk for similar reasons.
