had an old marantz myself and even when i updated back then i just ran my new system through it. it was sheer power. it ran a pair of vega 15s and a pair of the 12s like no tomorrow. Man those cerwins would throw down too. just can't get these little cubes today to thunder like that, but the big boys don't quite blend in with the plasma screen. glad to know there's others like me, but really into the old school car stereo scene.

Is that a 3 Dog Night 8 Track in the machine? :)

And is that a Magic 8-Ball? And don't tell me to "ask again later!" :)

Too cool. Older stuff is much better made - congrats on the "new" stereo!

Vegas are nice! I take donations. :)

Actually it was Peter Frampton's famous LIVE album. :) The sound was fantastic but, of course, right after I took that pic, the tape broke (sensing foil). ;D

You see THE FUN of having a bunch of 30 year old 8-tracks is that you have to take most of them apart now and replace the pads and sensing foil (kinda like lead tape that connects the tape ends so it loops). You also have to deal with bad rollers where the rubber has turned to GOO. This is what separates the SANE audiophile from the INSANE audiophile. :) However, if you like to tinker, then you can take advantage of estate sales where you can get 83 tapes for $19.99 like I did. 8)

I have ordered a wood splicing block to help with all this. If anyone else is a nutjob about old stuff... here is a nice 8-track repair how to page:
    8-track Repair @ ¼"ers

    8-Ball says 'YES.'

It seems to be the case most of the time, to be fair, there is some really, really nice stereo equipment being made now but it costs thousands of dollars! :p I scored my stuff off of craigslist for only a few hundred.

The lame thing is that they are doing just that, "sitting". Put them on CL a while back and nothing ever happened.
