You might recall back in early December when I reported that one of my Bangaii Cardinal fish dumped 17 babies from its mouth into a bucket when I was moving my tank to my new house. Being in mid-move, I was shell shocked and unprepared for that. I put them in the tank at the new place and hoped for the best. I didn't see any after the 3rd day. I thought they were all eaten, starved, etc. Flash forward to today and look what I see pop out when I started to feed my fish. It's Return of the Bangaii. :)

I am so happy to see this. Not only was this little guy back from the dead, he was actively chasing down and eating food. He appears to be about twice the size he was in December as well. More great news was that Mom and Dad were within eye-sight and not attacking him. Perhaps we have a success story here after all.

No way, that's awesome ;D I assume you already have a male, I'm not that familiar with Bengaii sexing, is there anyway to tell if it's a female?

    Thanks all!

You know I used 'he' but I have no idea. I'd love to know how to tell.

Shape of jaw and length of dorsal fin. I'll try and find something for you.

I just ask because I think I've read females have a better chance. Males from what I understand tend to be aggressive towards each other. Of course if you do end up with two males, I could always take one off your hands ;D

Excerpt from Frank Marini January 31st, 1999 on #reefs IRC (This was a chat client before forums were popular)

He's an expert breeder. I think it's funny he was mis-spelling Bangaii :)

    Now that is funny.
Thanks for the info. I've noticed the jaw traits with my pair now that I think about it. Cool! Have to take a close look....
