    Hi,

Too often you find that people just use the line "more is better" but there has to be a sensible number for calculating GPH and what limitations can this have.

The owner has kept the return pump (must of had fond memories ha ha) using a RIO 2500, Talking to another seller he has mentioned a MAG 36A Utility pump, oddly the owner is telling me the pump is 2500 GPH but clearly the model number is informing me the pump is 3600 GPH revision A.

I have a 75G display with a 30G sump with a required head of 4' minimum but now my question.

What is the common practice with flow on a salt water tank, I know when I asked this same question for my sump for my cichlid tank the response was "Bigger the better, biggest you can afford" - I would like to expand on this insight.

    Hi, Tim~

You want to run somewhere around 10X the sump size for the return. Reality is that when you get much higher than that, most of the water is not being filtered/processed before returning to the DT, which defeats the purpose of the sump.

    Hope this help. :)
